Yelp Rebrand

I was the lead on the marketing team in part of a collaborative effort with the product designers who were tasked with modernizing Yelp’s illustration style to fit alongside Yelp’s overall rebrand.

I set up weekly workshops where we figured out what we wanted to communicate and ended up with the core principals of community and diversity to better reflect the users of our products. We refined our rounds and rounds of our sketches to be more fun, inclusive, and easier to replicate (especially if you’re not much of an illustrator) than our previous style.

We finally settled on a style that we were excited for. One that met our principals and had room to expand because we knew project would come up that would have us thinking of our illustrations in ways we couldn’t anticipate (but were excited for).

How can we update our illustration style to be more
inclusive, efficient, and cohesive?
